Where does a grad student who wants to study in Canada go for student loans?
Hi. I'm hoping to go to grad school in Canada next year. My top choices are the University of Ottawa and Concordia University in Montreal. I'm from the United States and would need to pay for grad school through student loans. Where is the best place to go to get these loans? Are loans that will cover living expenses also available to me? Am I looking to get loans from places in the United States or Canada? Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks ahead of time.

It is nearly impossible to obtain student loans for study abroad. You aren't eligible to borrow in Canada if you go to school there, and in the US, you would be going overseas, therefore ineligible for most types of student loans. Your parents, however, might be able to obtain parent loans. Remember, you have to prove you have sufficient funds for all of your school expenses, plus all of your living expenses, plus transportation back to your own country. If you are relying on loans for school + living expenses, and have no real funds of your own, you are going to have a great deal of difficulty getting a student visa. You and your parents really need to come up with a better method of paying for grad school, or forget studying overseas. You probably could not borrow enough in the US for school + living expenses staying in the US. It's just too much money to borrow, and banks are not keen on lending these days. Student loans funds are low and demand is up, too.
