Food can be expensive / cheap in Vancouver. It depends where you are at. It's anywhere from 6 - 20 dollars per meal. If you are going to UBC/ SFU, and you have a U pass, bus fare is included in your school fee. I can't think of other living expenses if you are living in a dorm.

If you are in a dorm and use public transportation and don't buy alot of new clothes, your expenses will be minimal. B.C. is an expensive place to live. I am not from there but am in Canada. I would say that you will need about $500 a month for your groceries and toiletries. You can probably get a few nice clothing items out of that as well. If you have a cell phone, health insurance with extended benefits, a vehicle, to buy a computer, pay for dates, internet connection, beer, weekend trips, or other extra expenses, it will run higher. It also depends on if you eat out or cook your own meals.

Do you need all of your money upfront when applying for a student visa in Canada?
Do you need all of your money upfront when applying for a student visa in Canada?
This is in relation to another question I asked. But my friend wants to go to school up here in Canada. And is curious how much money he is going to need. So when he applies for a student visa, does he need to have all of the money for his college courses upfront? In my friends case, does he need to have his money for 2 years of college(since thats all hes going to be taking) upfront when applying for a student visa?

YES he needs to show proof that he has sufficient money already in the bank to support himself while he is studying. tuition fees, books, rent, food, clothes, transportation, laundry, entertainment, and other expenditures. probably looking at least $2000 CAN per month - not counting the tuition fees. Fees usually need to be paid up front when you register or apply to a college. If he does not have sufficient money, he will be denied a study visa. If you plan on supporting him, well that may imply a dual intent - CIC thinks he will study, but then he will stay after he graduates because he will be staying with you. If you do offer a place for him to stay, then you must write a letter as if you were the landlady and he the roommate. He also needs to show proof that he will return home after he graduates.

no he does not, he only needs to show proof of fund for one year tuition plus living expenses. the more the better of course! but not necessary. sam nouri www.khorshid.ca

A child born in Canada is a citizen thereat. Thus, even when the parents are only possessing student visas, their child will be a Canadian citizen.
2 :
If your child is born in Canada, he or she is automatically entitled to citizenship and that means that they can have a Canadian passport. They will also have a Birth Certificate from the province they were born in.

There are a number of steps to follow. I have linked Citizenship and Immigration Canada which has full details: You need to be accepted at a Canadian school. Your need to show that you have enough money to pay for your tuition, your stay in Canada, and your trip back home. You must have a clean criminal record and be healthy. Immigration needs to be satisfied that you will leave Canada at the end of your studies.
