Does Canada allow student visa holders to convert to working visas?

Does Canada allow student visa holders to convert to working visas?
I have heard that canada laws require students to leave the country after finishing their studies are students; it's very hard to stay and find work. Can anyone confirm/refute this?

But usually only for 1 year. So far I have not seen anything that says you can change status permanently inside the country. So basically yes you would need to leave canda to get a work permit. But there is nothing to stop you looking for work while you are in Canada and then leaving for a week to get the WP and then coming back - I dont think.

Ask yourself this question ? If regular immigration applicants are waiting up to three years to get approval, why should you expect to get special fast treatment ? Canada wants people who have actual working experience, not just a recent graduate diploma. A student visa is for a set period of time in Canada, When it expires, you go home. Once you are back in your own country, feel free to apply, and see if you are accepted. Remember, it is our country, and we set the Immigration rules. You just have to obey them. . Jim B. Toronto.
