Do i put the amount i received in student loans this year for tuition on my canada tax return?
Canada tax help I recieved a statement for my student loans and i was curious to know if i have to put the amount of the loan in my income tax return somewhere. This is the first year im doing my taxes and i cant figure this out. I know if you start paying interest you have to claim that. But i am still getting student loans for next year and therefore i wont be paying yet.

No. Your school will send you (or make available for you to print out in some cases) a T2202A slip that contains the tuition you can claim on your taxes. You cannot put the value of your student loan on your taxes because for all they know you are spending half of it on beer and pretzels. The link I provided below has some useful tidbits from the accountants of Ontario for students who are doing their taxes. You should file for any previous year you were over 18 because you will get free money from the government.

The amount of the loan is between you and your lendor. The only thing you should be putting on your schedule 11 and provincial schedule 11 are the tuition amounts and fulltime/parttime months according to your T2202A from your education institution. Based on what most student's make, chances are that you won't use any of your tuition and have the option of transferring an amount to your parents/spouse/grandparents or keep it for the future.

international student wants to immigrate to Canada?
Is it true that there is a new policy in Canada where it allows international students to apply for a citzienship after graduating from university? I was told that once you graduate from a Canadian university, apply for the citizenship, work for a year, then you will be able to become a citizen. I am not sure about the actual details and so please give me some directions of what I can do in order to apply for a citizenship. Thanks.

Partially yes. Actually, Canadian Immigration department is prefering international students to find job in Canada after graduating from Canadian University. Now, international student with graduate degree from Canadian university does not need to go back and apply for the immigration. They can find the job and apply for the permenant residency while in Canada. You can also contact someone www.nascintl.com. They are excelent lawyers. Best of Luck

You have to approach your university bank/credit union. Normally they are a bit linient to students in their UNIV for short term loan up to 12-18 months

I don't think it is wise to accept loans over Yahoo Answers, you should try a major bank. Provide proof of income, most banks provide student rates. Good luck!

I have a Hong Kong passport and a student visa for studying in Canada. Can I vacation?
I am 19 years of age and male. I want to vacation with my girlfriends family to Cuba or some tropical place (Costa Rica, ect.) I was wondering if I am allowed to go vacation (aka leaving Canadian soil) I don't have a canadian visa, I only have a HK passport and a student visa allowing me to stay in Canada to study. They are also going to Florda this March Break, am I also allowed to enter american soil for vacation? Thanks ** Canadian citizen, not Visa

i got a us visa for 9 months when i was student in canada,but after completing the studies when i came bak to india n applied for renewal of us visa i got denied for lack of economic ties though i have valid visas n travelled to europe n uk many times????shud i reapply instantly or shud give it a break to apply....please suggest me

The visa issued in Canada seems to have been linked to your duration of authorized stay based on your Canadian temporary residence permit. The application from India requires to convince a visa Officer that you do not plan to immigrate and that you will have the financial assets to cover your up to six months stay in the United States for the next ten years [that's the regular validation of a U.S. visa issued in India]. If you have gotten a visa denial based on section 214b [US INA] because of lack of economic ties to your country it only makes sense to apply again if your situation has changed significantly. By U.S. law you may re-apply for a visa three days after the visa interview. The European visa application procedures are differrent since visa are issued based on the itinerary provided and their validity only covers the period of proposed travel..

Also, at the time you got a visa to US, you had presumably serious ties (school) elsewhere and obligations to be elsewhere within a specific time frame. You do not have those sorts of ties now. Give it a serious rest before attempting to obtain another visa to the US. Meanwhile, you need a job in India, and work long enough to accrue at least two weeks vacation time. Buy a home, or have family, investments, property, people and obligations which compel you to return home promptly to resume work and all when your 2 week vacation is up. Save your money. Then plan a 10-day trip to the US, have the itinerary, money, hotel reservations, et al lined up, and apply for a tourist visa for the 10 days. You should be able to get it. Having been declined, unless you address the specific issues underlying that declination, you will be declined again. Your countrymen have fouled things up for you - Indians have a perfectly wretched reputation for visa fraud, such as applying for tourist visas, then looking for work (which is actually visa fraud - obtaining a visa by claiming one purpose when you actually have some other purpose or intent).

I will be entering Canada on a student work visa. I may have a minor indiscretion on my record (unsure) of a public order offence. I was issued with a fine originally but it was resolved as a misunderstanding and i was let off with a warning, didn't have to pay a fine etc. Will i have to declare this?
