well, it may, but if you don't it will cost one plane ticket home
2 :
Apply for an extension BEFORE your Visa expires. Once it expires, you have to apply for a new Visa and you can't do that from inside Canada. A good friend of mine was deported and missed an entire semester. As soon as they received her application they gave her 24 hours to leave. On this page from the Canadian Immigration site, it states clearly, "If your study permit has expired, and you have not applied for an extension, you must leave Canada.' There does seem to be a fee involved.

I've been paying my Canada Student loan 5 yrs but still have 6K left. Is there a way to pay less of it?
I'm curious if there's a debt relief program, where a part of my student loan may be forgiven or waived. I've been diligently paying my loan at a rate of 100 dollars per month.

Welcome to my world. the average student loan for a Canadian student is 10 years of paying minimum payments based on a 30-40 thousand dollar loan. the interest kills, that is why they suggest to pay about 10 to 20 dollars more then the minimum requirement. it kills the interest faster and you hit prinicple faster. I started that about 2 years ago and now I have takin a year off already and have been paying it faster. If you want to pay less on the loan you can contact the national student loan centre and they will evaluate your earnings compared to what you owe and currently pay them and if they feel that you qualify for a decrease in monthly payments they will grant an decrease or what they call a 6 month grace period on repayment where they allow you to have 6 months interest free no repayment. some sites include www.hrdc-drhc.gc.ca/student_loans www.aved.gov.bc.ca/studentservices

I know that some places you need to be a citizen of Canada to work because they require proof of citizenship and your Canadian social insurance number but you could try applying for a student work permit.. as for salary --> the minimum wage depends on what province you are planning on working in..the wages very from at least $8.00 - $10.00.. and the working limit would probably just be generally 40 hours.. after that you get into over-time hours and most employers don't allow you to go over because they have to pay you time and a half... but here's the Canadian Government site that should help you out, http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/study/work.asp hope i was some help! good luck!
2 :
Any international issue or law in Canada, is the same in every "province".You can study and get a "work permit" just whenever you get accepted into the university or college and you start your studying, the government of Canada needs from you a transcript from your previous semester(s) based on what you studied in Canada. Then you can apply part time job easily. you will wait to for an answer for like 1 and half months max. Edit: Salaries are only 9 max per hour. good luck

How much in tax returns will I be roughly getting back as a working university student in Canada?
I'm an alberta resident filing my income tax for the first time at 20 yrs old. I've worked part time since I was 14 and even currently in university. I'm also receiving student loans. I was just wondering what is a good estimate of how much I should be getting back for tax returns.

Assuming you're not making a lot of money (under 20k) with the credits you've mentioned I would assume you would get back all the tax withheld by your employer (or the amount in box 22 on your t4).

When you student visa runs out you have to leave the country, you can apply to return to Canada via the standard immigration application, just because you studied in Canada does not mean you can stay in Canada or will be accepted into Canada as a permanent resident
2 :
You cannot change the type of visa you have without returning home first.

Can I work with a student visa in Canada?
Can I work with a student visa in Canada?
I'm hoping to go to a university in Canada one day and I'm an American. I'm completely financially independent, working slightly above minimum wage, so there's no way for me to save up enough money to sustain living in Canada without a job. If I'm on a student visa, will I be able to apply for a job in Canada?

I really don't know. But I had a problem at customs once when I was doing a trade-show and they said I had to have a work permit to enter the country. It was a real hassle. They might require you to have that. Ask the Canadian government.
2 :
www.cic.gc.ca is the immigration website and you can probably find your answer there. My guess is that, on a student visa, you can't work except for something like student teaching through the university.
3 :
Yes, you can work while on a student visa. However, it is not quite as simple as finding a job and starting work. In order to work off-campus, you need to be a full-time student that has studied in Canada for at least one year and you must apply for a work permit through the CIC. If your application is approved, you are only eligible to work up to 20 hours per week while school is in session (and full-time during breaks and the summer). There is a $150 fee to apply for the work permit. You will also need to get a Social Insurance Number (SIN), the Canadian equivalent of an SSN, to be able to work. Check out this FAQ for more details: http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/faq/study/index.asp You can also work on-campus without a work permit.

US Student living in Canada. Filed US and Canadian Federal Taxes. Must I file Maine state return?
US Student living in Canada. Filed US and Canadian Federal Taxes. Must I file Maine state return?
I had my taxes done professionally, and they only filed a US and Canadian return. They claimed I was a resident of the US - since I am a student and "normally" my address would be Maine. The only income I had at my Maine address would technically be $500.00 in bank interest at that address. All other income was from within Canada. Must I file a Maine return claiming the Canadian income from my wife and I?
United States - 1 Answers
Random Answers, Critics, Comments, Opinions :
1 :
The question of whether you're a Maine resident under Maine law is different from the question of whether you're a US resident under the US-Canada Tax Treaty. Bank interest is not considered "sourced", so you wouldn't have to file a Maine non-resident return to report it, but bank account location is a factor in residency. However, the first reference suggests that Maine will consider you a resident unless you take actions to indicate that you do not intend to return to Maine, AND that you are maintaining a "domicile" in Canada. As a student, that seems unlikely, but not impossible. See, in particular, example 3 of the second reference for an example of a student who is NOT considered a resident of the state where she attends school, but of Maine, the state she left from. On the other hand, if your wife is a Canadian resident (under US law, NOT necessarily Canadian law), and you're living with her in Canada, then that may qualify as a Domicile. In that case, though, you'd probably be a Canadian resident under US law, and I don't want to second-guess your professionals without complete information.

In Canada on a student visa. " From when " can I apply for my permanent immigration as a skilled worker?10 pts?
I am now on student visa and I would like to apply for my permanent immigration as a skilled worker as I have its eligible condition. So I just want to know FROM WHEN or from how long after arriving and starting to study in Canada I can apply for my permanent immigration. I already have the 67 points of eligibility to apply. PS: I could not find the answer to this specific question on www.cic.gc.ca website

Well your answer IS on the CIC website - you are not looking closely enough. You would apply under the Canadian Experience class. You must: be either: 1 - a temporary foreign worker with at least two years of full-time (or equivalent) skilled work experience in Canada, or 2 - a foreign graduate from a Canadian post-secondary institution with at least one year of full-time (or equivalent) skilled work experience in Canada So AFTER you graduate, you apply for a post graduate work permit and you work in Canada for 12 months at a full time job (thats 37.5 hours per week) After you complete the 12 months, you STAY on a work permit and continue working. BUT you can now send a PR application into CIC. RIght now there is NO timeline available but so far thay are taking more than 12 months to be processed. You must continue working on a work permit for this entire time. When your processing is complete, you are landed as a PR in a local CIC office.

Student moving to Canada from US with illegal status?
I'm international student from Turkmenistan in USA. However, last week got denied my reinstatement even if i'm in new college. I was thinking to transfer to Ottawa university in Canada with my not valid student status in US. The bad part is there is NO Canadian Embassy in Turkmenistan but i really want move and study there. You must return to your own country immediately and urgently. Canada has serious objections to those who violate other countries' immigration laws & visa regulations. Overstaying in US could well keep you out of Canada. Get going & get home fast. Then start applying to colleges, etc. BTW, fouling up school in the US is probably going to keep you out of Canadian colleges. You'd better get your butt back home before you land in really big trouble.

Then start applying to colleges, etc. BTW, fouling up school in the US is probably going to keep you out of Canadian colleges. You'd better get your butt back home before you land in really big trouble.

You did not tell us the ONE thing that actually matters....Your nationality. See site below. If your home country is on the Visa Waiver List, you may visit the U.S. for up to 90 days without a visa. If your home country is not on that list, you must have a B-2 tourist visa to visit the U.S. See info for that on same page. Your visa in Canada has nothing to so with visiting the Ul=.S.

There are a few formalities to be done and a consultant can guide you appropriately like the Goldman Associates (http://immigrationtocanada.org/)

Hi I just want to know how I can get a Canadian Student visa? Do I have to apply to a university and get accepted first or can I apply for a student visa directly THEN look for a university? Can anyone give me some tips? or links about the process? Thank you in advance

Apply to the university first. As an international student you pay full fees, about double what the locals pay. You have to show that you have enough to pay fees and living for the first year, on arrival and you are strictly limited in where and how much you can work for pay.

Permanent resident status To become a Canadian citizen, you must have permanent resident status in Canada, and that status must not be in doubt. This means you must not be the subject of an immigration investigation, an immigration inquiry or a removal order (an order from Canadian officials to leave Canada). More than 130,000 students come to study in Canada every year and even more come to Canada to learn English or French. Foreign students bring a rich culture to our classrooms. Your knowledge and skills are welcome in our schools. The provinces regulate education and schools in Canada. For more detailed information on living and studying in a specific province or territory, contact the school where you wish to study. To study in Canada, you may need a study permit or a temporary resident visa, though not everyone must have these documents.
2 :
Well first you would need to either get accepted to a Canadian school or hired by a Canadian employer. After that you can apply for a visa. Just go to www.cic.gc.ca for exactly what you're required to do.
3 :
Firstly you should have a school, in the case of student/employer as in the case of work to accept you. Then you're going to apply for the respective visa in the nearest Canadian Embassy/Consulate. The process may take months.

all information regarding Canada immigration that you need can be found in www.cic.gc.ca good luck
2 :
you CANNOT work part time while you studying full time. You must have enogh money tio support yourself during the entire course. Looking at a minimum of $2000 per month NOT including tuition fees. This is in Canada. First you need to apply to a culinary school in Canada and be accepted. George Brown college in Toronto has one of the best programs. The school will send you an acceptance letter. You then fill out the application for a study visa and include a copy of the acceptance letter. You MUST also have proof that you already have enough money to support yourself while you are studying.
3 :
yes you can work while studying. , you can work on or off campus..... To work off campus, you must apply for a work permit. Do not begin to work off campus until you have received your work permit. The work permit authorizes you to work up to 20 hours per week during regular academic sessions, and full time during scheduled breaks (for example, winter and summer holidays, and spring break). You may work on campus at the institution where you study without a work permit if: you are a full-time student at: a public post-secondary institution, such as a college or university, or a collège d’enseignement général et professionnel (CEGEP) in Quebec a private post-secondary institution that operates under the same rules and regulations as a public institution, and receives at least 50 percent of its financing for its overall operations from government grants (currently only private college-level educational institutions in Quebec qualify) or a Canadian private institution authorized by provincial statute to confer degrees and you have a valid study permit.

I am looking for information to apply for the visa as a spouse of student. I live in Pakistan and my wife is student in a University as a graduate student. We have two kids as well who are also in Pakistan. Anybody having idea of what to do to get the visa for Canada.

I think you consult some Law Firm like Goldman Associates. You will get a better advice for your query.
2 :
To obtain dependent visas for you and the 2 children, your spouse on the student visa has to prove not only that she has sufficient funds to pay all of her school and living expenses, she would also have to prove that she has sufficient funds (without working!) to provide for the living expenses of you and the two children. Also, if you have been working and supporting your wife while she goes to school, that eliminates her source of support under her student visa, and it could be grounds for revoking her student visa. With a spouse on a student visa, you will likely have difficulty obtaining a tourist visa to visit her since there is presumption that you would intend to remain with your spouse. It is also cheaper for one student to fly home for school holidays than fly 3 people to Canada to visit her. Your best bet is to remain in Pakistan, work, support your wife's school & living expenses, and ensure she returns to Pakistan as soon as she leaves school. This whole thing is going to look to immigration authorities as if you got one into Canada so you can get the rest of you in through a "backdoor immigration" scam.

Wife going to Canada en student visa. Can I go with her even though I have a DUI here?
I got a DUI charge on Feb. 2008. My wife will be going to Canada to do her masters degree in July, I understand that on the application she will fill out she can ask for me to get a Temporary visa to go with her. My question is, will my DUI be a problem for me to go with my wife to Canada? Or they will allow me to go with her regardless? Thank you for your help!

i think they're more worried about crimes like assault, murder and drug related crimes or if you spent more than a year in prison, dui seems to be a lesser sort of crime a friend of mine got into australia with a dui i know canada might be different, i recommend ringing the canadian embassy in your country and asking, but honestly i think you'll be grand.

That's a felony in Canada. It will be a problem.

Health insurance for US student studying in Ontario Canada?
Health insurance for US student studying in Ontario Canada?
Does anyone know the best route to go for a US citizen who is a student living in Canada on a study permit (but the school is not accredited) to get health insurance. Age 22. Gender: Female. Non Smoker.

You need to get private travel insurance from an American insurer. You're still considered an American Resident, since you're only staying in Canada temporarily for the purpose of studies.
2 :
That insurance would get you to a Canadian doctor for free. And why would you do that? They're the worst medical practitioners in the world, and American ones are among the best. Is money more important than your health? Do yourself a favour if you have a health issue, cross the border and see a proper doctor.
3 :
Contact Blue Cross or some other insurer such as Great West Life. International students do not qualify for provincial health care.

Oh my...I don't know where you heard that college in Canada is free...its not (I have two nieces in college - (one in BC & one in Manitoba). They are partially subsidized by the government, but not to the point that its free. Here's a cross-Canada tuition comparison from the UC British Columbia website for non-international students: http://www.students.ubc.ca/tuitionconsultation/201112-tuition-proposal/vancouver-proposal/comparative-tuition-and-fees/ At UBC, its about $120 per undergraduate credit, for international students its about $700. Here's a link for international rates at UBC: http://www.students.ubc.ca/coursesreg/tuition-fees-deposits/tuition-international-students/
4 :
You have to be a naturalized Canadian citizen in order to get free college. It's definitely not free for international students -- in fact, you'd probably end up paying a lot more. Sorry, there's no quick fix to pay out the nose for college.
5 :
College in Canada means community college. And I have no idea how you got the idea it was free in Canada. Some European countries have free university but in Canada it is not free to anyone, citizens or otherwise. And you will pay even more as an international student.

opportunities in canada for international student?
I was born in Panama. My parents are chinese. I'm currently attending a college in california, USA. My parents are planning to move to canada (maybe winnipeg, perhaps vancouver). I'm going with them. I've read bad stuff about immigrants going back to their countries because Canada doesn't recognize their skills and because they don't get paid well. I want to study nursing in Canada. is it too difficult for international students to get into a nursing program? could i be hired by hospitals, etc, after getting my diploma, even if I'm an international student? also, how expsensive is it to live in vancouver? and winnipeg? please, no silly answers. I need help and information. Thanks Please remember that I'm an international student. I know nurses are highly needed. I want to get me nursing degree there. will i be able to get a job afterwards?

Hi I'm not in the medical field but I am from Canada. Canada has a great need for nurses. It will be very easy to get a job anywhere in Canada. As for living expenses Vancouver is one of the most expesive places to live in Canada. Winnipeg is much cheaper but the weather is very cold to people who are not used to live in Canada.

In my opinion, the warmth of the Canadian people will make up for the cold temperatures in Canada. I don't think you'll have any trouble getting into a nursing program. The gentleman who answered you first is right --- Canada currently has a shortage of nurses. There are even more opportunities for work and the potential to make an outstanding salary in the Northwest Territories. Most institutions of higher education in Canada welcome international students with open arms....particularly if your grades are solid. The "Finding Your School" page on the website below will help you conduct a search by province and program of study. You should also read about the differences between the educational systems in the U.S. and Canada so you have a clear understanding of the type of school you're looking for. Good luck to you (and your family)! ADDITIONAL LINK TO NEWSLETTER BELOW....JUST RELEASED TODAY, September, 26, 2007 regarding Canadian schools and jobs for immigrants. Good luck

Whats the job prospect for an international graduate student in canada/US who are not citizens of these countries? After getting MSC/MS/PhD degree, can I expect that I shall get 1 job?

That is dependent on a lot of things. The US is a huge country, and the economic situation varies greatly from place to place. It is also very much depending on what your degree is in, and how much field experience you have. Being a citizen is not really a factor, they want to hire the most qualified person for the job. I do not know about Canada's situation, geographically they are completely different than America, but here in the States you can never expect to get a job, unless you are going into the medical field, even engineering is really falling into massive cuts. In America you can never expect anything, kind of scary, but don't give up.

This depends on your country of origin. Without knowing that, I can't help you. This should help though: http://www.cic.gc.ca/EnGLIsh/study/index.asp If you are American and crossing by land you can apply at any major border crossing.
2 :
Only if you qualify as an international student, are accepted by a university in Canada, can provide financial proof of being able to support yourself while here, you may have to post a bond with immigration, and can meet the grade standard requirements immigration has, pass a criminal record and background check and the medical exam Americans have to be accepted as international students and go through the same process any other foreign student has to, and they have to pay international student fees to study in Canada. You CANNOT just enter Canada from the USA and enroll in University without a Visa To be eligible to study in Canada You must have been accepted by a school, college, university or other educational institution in Canada. You must prove that you have enough money to pay for your: tuition fees living expenses for yourself and any family members who come with you to Canada and return transportation for yourself and any family members who come with you to Canada. You must be a law-abiding citizen with no criminal record and not be a risk to the security of Canada. You may have to provide a police certificate. You must be in good health and willing to complete a medical examination, if necessary. You must satisfy an immigration officer that you will leave Canada when you have completed your studies.
3 :
The short answer is NO.......... Having a visa in the UK has no relevance in Canada. Two separate countries, with totally different rules about who gets a visitors or student's visa. Jim B. Toronto.

Food can be expensive / cheap in Vancouver. It depends where you are at. It's anywhere from 6 - 20 dollars per meal. If you are going to UBC/ SFU, and you have a U pass, bus fare is included in your school fee. I can't think of other living expenses if you are living in a dorm.
2 :
If you are in a dorm and use public transportation and don't buy alot of new clothes, your expenses will be minimal. B.C. is an expensive place to live. I am not from there but am in Canada. I would say that you will need about $500 a month for your groceries and toiletries. You can probably get a few nice clothing items out of that as well. If you have a cell phone, health insurance with extended benefits, a vehicle, to buy a computer, pay for dates, internet connection, beer, weekend trips, or other extra expenses, it will run higher. It also depends on if you eat out or cook your own meals.

Do you need all of your money upfront when applying for a student visa in Canada?
Do you need all of your money upfront when applying for a student visa in Canada?
This is in relation to another question I asked. But my friend wants to go to school up here in Canada. And is curious how much money he is going to need. So when he applies for a student visa, does he need to have all of the money for his college courses upfront? In my friends case, does he need to have his money for 2 years of college(since thats all hes going to be taking) upfront when applying for a student visa?

YES he needs to show proof that he has sufficient money already in the bank to support himself while he is studying. tuition fees, books, rent, food, clothes, transportation, laundry, entertainment, and other expenditures. probably looking at least $2000 CAN per month - not counting the tuition fees. Fees usually need to be paid up front when you register or apply to a college. If he does not have sufficient money, he will be denied a study visa. If you plan on supporting him, well that may imply a dual intent - CIC thinks he will study, but then he will stay after he graduates because he will be staying with you. If you do offer a place for him to stay, then you must write a letter as if you were the landlady and he the roommate. He also needs to show proof that he will return home after he graduates.
2 :
no he does not, he only needs to show proof of fund for one year tuition plus living expenses. the more the better of course! but not necessary. sam nouri www.khorshid.ca

A child born in Canada is a citizen thereat. Thus, even when the parents are only possessing student visas, their child will be a Canadian citizen.
2 :
If your child is born in Canada, he or she is automatically entitled to citizenship and that means that they can have a Canadian passport. They will also have a Birth Certificate from the province they were born in.

There are a number of steps to follow. I have linked Citizenship and Immigration Canada which has full details: You need to be accepted at a Canadian school. Your need to show that you have enough money to pay for your tuition, your stay in Canada, and your trip back home. You must have a clean criminal record and be healthy. Immigration needs to be satisfied that you will leave Canada at the end of your studies.

Actually my dear I do believe the government (Canada's) will help you anyway it can... and just for the record my dear... If you ever need to know about Canada's services for such things just visit "service Canada" they will provide you with everything from employment to training to education...

The answer would seem to be no. Citizenship & Immigration Canada doesn't seem to take existing debt into account. As a student, I'd say that your best bet is applying for a Student Visa. (And also a Student Work Permit if you'll need to find work to pay your bills while you're here.) Here's a ton of information on that from the C&IC's website: http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/study/index.asp (Including the eligibility requirements.) The reason I'm recommending you go this route is because there's a special system for people who've graduated from Canadian schools and/or have work experience here. It's called Canadian Experience Class, and here's the link that explains it: http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/immigrate/cec/index.asp Back when the earth was young, I went to University of Waterloo. I mention this because thousands of students from around the world study there. Here's a link to their International student office: http://www.iso.uwaterloo.ca/ Even if UofW doesn't offer what you want to study, they should be able to help you make sense of what you'd need to do and how to do it far better than I can. Best of luck and I sincerly hope everything works out for you.
3 :
Your debts will show up on a background check. You are unlikely to get any funding or loan in Canada as you would be an international student.
4 :
You can indeed apply for Canadian immigration while owing money in the USA> However, this does not mean you can get away with not paying the loans. Canada uses the same credit agencies as the USA and the data is on the same servers for both countries. Your US credit follows you to Canada if it is negative. But not if it is positive. As well, US lenders have no problem going after US deadbeats who have moved to Canada. Canada will allow them to use legal means to collect from you. If you want to move to Canada, here is a link to the Canadian government web site with the information. http://www.goingtocanada.gc.ca/CIC/display-afficher.do?id=0000000000102&lang=eng You can take this test to see if you might qualify http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/immigrate/skilled/assess/index.asp One of the most popular ways of entering Canada is as a skilled worker. Follow this link to see if you are eligible http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/immigrate/skilled/tool/index.asp However, Canadian employers will often not hire a person without Canadian employment experience, which you cannot get until someone offers you a job. The problem is that so many previous immigrants from countries other than the US, the UK, Australia, New Zealand or north western Europe have had false credentials that Canadian employers are wary of hiring people from other places than listed. The process of moving to Canada can take up to three years and can cost $10,000 in government fees. Permanent residency in Canada is not free. If you are a US citizen, an easier to way to work in Canada, at least on a temporary basis may be under NAFTA. However, you must be a member of certain specialty occupations. http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/work/special-business.asp#nafta These occupations are listed here. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/TN_Visa As well, if you are an H-1B visa holder in the USA, you may be eligible to apply for permanent residence in Canada. http://canadaimmigrationlaw.net/Immigration/h1b_visa.htm Also note that you do not need to know any French to immigrate to Canada unless you plan to live in the province of Quebec. As for getting a job in Canada, because so many immigrants from countries outside the USA and the UK have falsified degrees, Canadian employers generally do not accept them unless they already have Canadian experience in their field with another Canadian employer. It is common for engineers and the like from Asia and the Middle East, even with a PhD, to be taxi drivers or parking lot attendants. It is likely your degree will only be recognized if it is from the USA, UK, Australia, New Zealand or Northwestern Europe. Regardless, after a fast start Canada̢۪s recovery from the recession has slowed down and it is very difficult to find a job in Canada. It will be easier when you see that Canada̢۪s unemployment rate is below 6%. Do note that it is not possible to live in Canada by yourself or support a family with a minimum wage job.

Can I be rejected a student visa in Canada if I have a family member citizen there?
I am over 25 yo, the only brother I have lives in Canada and he's a canadian citizen. I guess I can't apply for a family visa due to the age limitations. If I want to come and study in Canada, so I would get a student visa, can a consulate reject my student visa because I have a family member living there? Is that a legit reason? Any other ways to reunite with my family?

What is the best bank for a US student studying in Canada?
What is the best bank for a US student studying in Canada?
I am a US student that will most likely be studying at UBC in the fall of 2009. Is there a bank that I can use both in Canada and the United States that is FDIC insured?

Bank of Canada will be the best.

There are no banks that provide seamless services both in the US and Canada, to my knowledge. However, many Canadian banks own banks in the United States, the Royal Bank of Canada comes to mind, and I believe that there are easier ways to transfer money between RBC and its U.S. banks (for example, easier online banking transfers.) All Canadian retail banks offer U.S. dollar accounts. Canadian dollars accounts are insured by the CDIC (Canadian Deposit Insurance Corporation) for up to $100,000.00, much like the FDIC in the U.S. I would advise just opening up a Canadian bank account and when you want to transfer money to Canada from the U.S. don't use a retail bank because your rate will not be good. Rather use a currency exchange business such as Custom House and negotiate a good rate--the more you transfer, the better the rate, so move you money all at once (say for an entire school year). I don't know why the other answerer suggests the "Bank of Canada". It is not a retail bank but a Crown entity like the Federal Reserve in the U.S.

Your husband would have to sponsor you and prove to immigration officials that he can support you financially.

How can I get a student visa into Canada?
How can I get a student visa into Canada?
I am planning on attending the University of Toronto in Fall 2011 and I am from Texas. I was reading a little into it and it said that I can get one if I agree NOT to engage in the work force? What if I am planning on staying there longer than a year? And I also heard somewhere in the past that the government of Canada will only admit you through if you have $10,000 in untapped funds? Are these all valid statements? And how exactly could I go about getting a student visa?

I was reading a little into it and it said that I can get one if I agree NOT to engage in the work force? YES that is correct. You are a student - you should NOT be working. What if I am planning on staying there longer than a year? Your study permit should be valid to cover the entire course - you need to have enough money to support yourself while you are studying. And I also heard somewhere in the past that the government of Canada will only admit you through if you have $10,000 in untapped funds? Are these all valid statements? $10,000 per year will NOT be enough. You need to have at least $25,000 PER YEAR PLUS tuition fees and books. (another $10 15,000) You need to pay for rent, utilities, entertainment, health care (as you will NOT be covered by the Ontario health system), transportation, clothes, food, etc etc. And how exactly could I go about getting a student visa? Step 1- apply to the university and be accepted. The university will send you an acceptance letter step 2 - fill in the study permit forms from CIC and include documentation as required (copy of acceptance letter, proof of funds, proof that you WILL GO home at the end of your studies, and proof of no criminal record) send everything to the Buffalo visa office. step 3 - if you are approved you will get the study permit in the mail. It will have 2 dates on it - one date will be the earliest date you can enter Canada - NOT before. The other date will be the expiry date. If this date is before your course ends, then you just need to apply for an extension, show proof that you will be continuing your studies and have enough money to live on, and the extension should be granted.

How can I get a Student Visa to Canada From Taiwan ?
How can I get a Student Visa to Canada From Taiwan ?
Hello! I'm an overseas foreign worker from Philippines, I would like to apply from Taiwan for Canada. How long does it take to process for a student visa? What requirements do I need to settle? How about applying for other visas such as work and immigrant, which one is more easy and fast? Thanks for your suggestions or comments you could share to me.

"easy and fast". Two words immigration don't like to hear. Another red flag for them will be that you aren't applying from your own country.
2 :
You need to get a work visa first before you can even come here. Unless you are a student you cannot apply for a student visa. If you are a student you'll have to show a letter of acceptance to a Canadian university first. http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/index.asp
3 :
You need to apply to a Canadian college or university and be accepted before you can get a student visa. Once you are accepted the visa will be straight forward. However, you will pay very high tuition and may not work off campus. Otherwise, the work visa application information and forms are here:

Canada student visa and study permit is valid but my study is completed?
Canada student visa and study permit is valid but my study is completed?
I was wondering If I can re-enter or stay in canada till my visa and study permit is valid although I have completed my studies early.

If you have completed your studies early, and haven't reported it to Citizenship and Immigration Canada (CIC), your study permit is already invalid. This is because it is your responsibility to contact the CIC immediately if anything related to your studies changes. Changes include but are not limited to: **There has been a change in your funding situation; **Information on your Canadian Study Permit has changed and/or is no longer valid; **You intend to continue studies longer than the expiration date on your study permit; and/or **Your studies have concluded before your study permit has expired. Since your Study Permit is already invalid, you need to contact a CIC office immediately to get an extension on your Visa. You need to do this quickly to avoid being asked to leave the country immediately (or worse). There's no avoiding it because the school's records and your study permit end date are already out of synch. See the website below for more information. Good luck.

Can an international student work in Canada after suspended?
Can an international student work in Canada after suspended?
A foreign student came to Ontario as an international university student. However, he got suspended because of failing grades. He would not be able to continue studying for 8 months. Does the VISA allow him to work in Canada during that period?

Hi. The student should contact Citizenship and Immigration Canada (CIC) immediately. They require immediate reporting if there are any changes to the information submitted on the original Canadian Study Permit. Matter of fact, until recently students were suppose to report a change in their major, although that is no longer the case. If the CIC isn't contacted and the proper documentation isn't issued for the extension, the chances of the student picking up their studies at their Canadian university in 8 months is slim to none. I would imagine that the school is also reponsible for reporting both the student's suspension and reinstatement to the CIC, so it's doubtful that there's any getting around it from the student's perspective. Furthermore, student work permits are usually granted by the university at which the student is studying and generally only for 20 hours a week unless they are involved in a school-sponsored internship. Therefore, I would suspect that any documentation to stay in Canada to work between now and when the student is reinstated at their university would be different from any documentation they currently hold. The websites below should help. Good luck.
